The Chamber is:

  an independent, non-political, subscription-based association dedicated to promoting a business-friendly environment;

  an impartial, credible non-profit association, which enables it to negotiate contracts and secure funding for projects that benefit its community;

  comprised of members from every sector of the economy, ranging from small entrepreneurs to large corporates;

  involved in a number of initiatives to promote regional development, enterprise and skills development, training and business advisory services

BATOBIC Programme:             

Functions

 

A programme management unit with full time dedicated staff was established to drive the implementation of the Batobic Programme. The core functions of the unit can be summarised as follows:

  • To facilitate the implementation (and periodic updating) of a Tourism Development Strategy and the Multi-Year Development Programme. Download the Batobic Strategy - March 2011 (MS Word 2.5mb).

  • To facilitate the identification and conceptualisation of additional anchor investment projects.

  • To identify and facilitate the removal of particular bottlenecks (on an ongoing basis) that hinder the implementation.

  • To identify and facilitate the mobilisation of sources of technical and financial assistance to support the implementation of the programme.

  • The design and financing of relevant technical studies that will facilitate the implementation of the programme.

  • Interaction and coordination with the relevant public, private and community stakeholders in context of facilitating the implementation of particular investment projects and programmes.

  • Strategic level interaction and coordination with the relevant South African government departments (national, provincial and local authorities).

  • Trans-boundary collaboration and coordination in order to ensure coherency and consistency between policy and strategy between Swaziland and South Africa.

  • Investor mobilisation in support of the various anchor investment projects with a particular focus on community owned land.

  • Marketing of the project area and its opportunities nationally and internationally.
